śamīm aśvattha ārūḍhas tatra puṃsuvanaṃ kṛtam | tad vai putrasya vedanaṃ tat strīṣv ā bharāmasi ||1||
The açvatthá [has] mounted upon the çamī́; there is made the generation of a male; that verily is the obtainment of a son; that we bring into women.
Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)
पुंसि वै रेतो भवति तत् स्त्रियाम् अनु षिच्यते । तद् वै पुत्रस्य वेदनं तत् प्रजापतिर् अब्रवीत् ॥२॥
puṃsi vai reto bhavati tat striyām anu ṣicyate | tad vai putrasya vedanaṃ tat prajāpatir abravīt ||2||
In the male, indeed, grows (bhū) the seed; that is poured along into the woman; that verily is the obtainment of a son; that Prajāpati said.
Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)
प्रजापतिर् अनुमतिः सिनीवाल्य् अचीक्ळ्पत् । स्त्रैषूयम् अन्यत्र दधत् पुमांसम् उ दधत् इह ॥३॥
prajāpatir anumatiḥ sinīvāly acīkḷpat | straiṣūyam anyatra dadhat pumāṃsam u dadhat iha ||3||
Prajāpati, Anumati, Sinīvālī hath shaped; may he put elsewhere woman-birth; but may he put here a male.
Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)
