Black the down-track, the yellow eagles, clothing themselves in waters, fly up to the sky; they have come hither from the seat of righteousness (ṛtá); then, forsooth, with ghee they deluged the earth.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)

payasvatīḥ kṛṇuthāpa oṣadhīḥ śivā yad ejathā maruto rukmavakṣasaḥ | ūrjaṃ ca tatra sumatiṃ ca pinvata yatrā naro marutaḥ siñcathā madhu ||2||

Ye make the waters rich in milk, the herbs propitious, when ye bestir yourselves, O golden-backed Maruts; do ye lavish (pinv) both sustenance and good-will there, where, O manly Maruts, ye pour honey.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)

उदप्रुतो मरुतस् तां इयर्त वृष्टिर् या विश्वा निवतस् पृणाति । एजाति ग्लहा कन्येव तुन्नैरुं तुन्दाना पत्येव जाया ॥३॥

udapruto marutas tāṃ iyarta vṛṣṭir yā viśvā nivatas pṛṇāti | ejāti glahā kanyeva tunnairuṃ tundānā patyeva jāyā ||3||

Water-swimming [are] the Maruts; send ye that rain which shall fill all the hollows; the gláhā shall bestir itself, like a girl that is thrust, thrusting the éru, like wife with husband.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)
