Devanagari rendered by HREEM from the edition's roman (IAST) text; the IAST is the edition's own.

Children (the ignorant) pursue external pleasures; (thus) they fall into the wide- spread snare of death. But the wise, knowing the nature of immortality, do not seek the permanent among fleeting things.

Translated by Swami Paramananda

Children follow after outward pleasures, and fall into the snare of wide-spread death. Wise men only, knowing the nature of what is immortal, do not look for anything stable here among things unstable.

Translated by F. Max Müller
