nir lakṣmyaṃ lalāmyaṃ nir arātiṃ suvāmasi | atha yā bhadrā tāni naḥ prajāyā arātiṃ nayāmasi ||1||

Out we drive (nir-sū) the pallid sign, out the niggard; then, whatever things are excellent (bhadrá), those we lead together (?) for our progeny.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)

निर् अरणिं सविता साविषक् पदोर् निर् हस्तयोर् वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा । निर् अस्मभ्यम् अनुमती रराणा प्रेमां देवा असाविषुः सौभगाय ॥२॥

nir araṇiṃ savitā sāviṣak pador nir hastayor varuṇo mitro aryamā | nir asmabhyam anumatī rarāṇā premāṃ devā asāviṣuḥ saubhagāya ||2||

Savitar has driven out the trouble (? draṇi) in her feet; out have Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman [driven] [that] in her hands; out hath Anumati, bestowing (rā) upon us; the gods have driven this woman forward unto good fortune.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)

यत् त आत्मनि तन्वां घोरम् अस्ति यद् वा केशेषु प्रतिचक्षणे वा । सर्वं तद् वाचाप हन्मो वयं देवस् त्वा सविता सूदयतु ॥३॥

yat ta ātmani tanvāṃ ghoram asti yad vā keśeṣu praticakṣaṇe vā | sarvaṃ tad vācāpa hanmo vayaṃ devas tvā savitā sūdayatu ||3||

Whatever in thy self, in thy body, is frightful, or what in hair or in mien—all that do we smite away with [our] words; let god Savitar advance (sūd) thee.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)

रिश्यपदीं वृषदतीं गोषेधां विधमाम् उत । विलीढ्यं ललाम्यं ता अस्मन् नाशयामसि ॥४॥

riśyapadīṃ vṛṣadatīṃ goṣedhāṃ vidhamām uta | vilīḍhyaṃ lalāmyaṃ tā asman nāśayāmasi ||4||

The antelope-footed, the bull-toothed, the kine-repelling, the out-blowing, the licked-out, the pallid—these we make disappear from us.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)
