apām atiṣṭhad dharuṇahvaraṃ tamo 'ntar vṛtrasya jaṭhareṣu parvataḥ | abhīm indro nadyo vavriṇā hitā viśvā anuṣṭhāḥ pravaṇeṣu jighnate ||
Devanagari rendered by HREEM from the edition's roman (IAST) text; the IAST is the edition's own.
There darkness stood, the vault that stayed the waters' flow: in Vrtra's hollow side the rain-cloud lay concealed. But Indra smote the rivers which the obstructer stayed, flood following after flood, down steep declivities.
