Atharvaveda Saṃhitā (Śaunaka) 19.26

agneḥ prajātaṃ pari yad dhiraṇyam amṛtaṃ dadhre adhi martyeṣu | ya enad veda sa id enam arhati jarāmṛtyur bhavati yo bibharti ||1||

The gold that, born out of the fire, immortal, maintains itself over mortals—whoso knows it, he verily merits (arh) it; one that dies of old age becomes he who wears (bhṛ) it.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)

yad dhiraṇyaṃ sūryeṇa suvarṇam prajāvanto manavaḥ pūrva īṣire | tat tvā candraṃ varcasā saṃ sṛjaty āyuṣmān bhavati yo bibharti ||2||

The gold, of beauteous color by the sun, that men (mánu) of old with their progeny sought—that, shining (candrá), shall unite thee with splendor; of long life becomes he who wears it.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)

āyuṣe tvā varcase tvaujase ca balāya ca | yathā hiraṇyatejasā vibhāsāsi janāṃ anu ||3||

For life-time thee, for splendor thee, and for force and for strength—that with brilliancy of gold thou mayest shine out among the people.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)

yad veda rājā varuṇo veda devo bṛhaspatiḥ | indro yad vṛtrahā veda tat ta āyuṣyaṃ bhuvat tat te varcasyaṃ bhuvat ||4||

What king Varuṇa knows, [what] divine Bṛihaspati knows, what Indra the Vṛitra-slayer knows,—may that be for thee life-giving, may that be for thee splendor-giving.

Translated by William Dwight Whitney (1905)
