धन-हीनस् तु गुण-युक्तो ऽपि मध्यस्थ-गुणो हीनापदेशो वा सधनो वा प्रातिवेश्यः मातृ-पितृ-भ्रातृषु च परतन्त्रः बाल-वृत्तिर् उचित-प्रवेशो वा कन्याम् अलभ्यत्वान् न वरयेत्।
dhana-hīnas tu guṇa-yukto 'pi madhyastha-guṇo hīnāpadeśo vā sadhano vā prātiveśyaḥ mātṛ-pitṛ-bhrātṛṣu ca paratantraḥ bāla-vṛttir ucita-praveśo vā kanyām alabhyatvān na varayet.
